Current 2009 Spring Generals Audition Information:
Spring general auditions announcement
Audition/Casting
Policies and Procedures
An open casting policy exists for all mainstage and studio productions.
All students, faculty, staff, and Tidewater community members are encouraged
to audition.
Although CNU maintains an "open casting policy," full-time students
who are pursuing a major in Theater at CNU will be given first consideration
for both mainstage and studio productions. This preference is offered
to benefit all qualified theater students and is an integral part of CNU's
actor training process.
To be cast in any TheaterCNU production, actors are required to attend general and/or musical
auditions. TheaterCNU holds two general auditions each season (August
and January) and principal auditions in the spring of each year for the fall productions (April).
All auditions are open.
| Actors
are required to sign up for a 5-minute audition slot on the
TheaterCNU call main board located outside the Fine &
Performing Arts office in Ferguson Hall. Sign-up sheets are
posted at least two weeks before scheduled audition dates.
General
auditions are prepared auditions (usually monologues) not
to exceed 2 minutes. Musical auditions are prepared auditions
and, typically, require 2 short song selections (up-tempo
& ballad), not to exceed 36 bars. All actors should be aquainted with the basics of auditioning prior to presenting a general audition. Information on how to choose audition pieces and present an informed audition can be found in TheaterCNU's Audition Handbook.
Studio
Auditions
Typically
all general auditions for the studio productions are held
simultaneously with the mainstage auditions (near the beginning
of each semester). However, auditions for Studio shows may
be conducted by the director of the production at his/her
discretion.
Actors
will find audition notices for these productions posted on
departmental bulletin boards. It is the actor's responsibility
to check for audition notices on a regular basis. We recommend
at least once a week.
Audition
Information Sheets
At
the time of the general auditions, actors will be given an
information sheet. It is important to read all the information
detailed on this sheet carefully including rehearsal dates
andtimes; performance dates and times; special production
requirements; and departmental casting policy.
