Spring
of 2004 TheaterCNU presented two benefit performances of
Eve Ensler's award-winning play, The Vagina Monologues.
All proceeds benefited Transitions Family Violence Services,
the domestic violence agency serving the Peninsula.
Eve
Ensler's Obie-Award winning play has been translated into
over 25 languages and is performed in theaters worldwide,
including sold-out runs at both Off-Broadway's Westside Theater
and on London's West End. The play initiated V-Day,
a global movement to stop violence against women and girls
throughout the world. Through V-Day campaigns, local college
students produce benefit performances of The Vagina Monologues
to raise awareness and funds for anti-violence organizations,
such as Transitions Family Violence Services, within their
own communities.
Ms. Ensler has devoted
her life to stopping violence against women. Her work grows
out of her own personal experiences with violence. The play
is based on Ensler's interviews with more than 200 women celebrating
their sexuality and strength and exposing the violations that
women endure throughout the world.
